Moving water can turn a wheel and do work.

Thompson Lake is named for Moses Thompson.

In 1836 he built Howell’s first saw mill on the stream that flows out of the lake.

Moving water pushes a wheel. The wheel can turn a saw. That is a simple machine at work.
